Mini-Imaging Probes
The Mini 0.5 and Mini 0.5 AHS/RF Probes
For imaging of objects with diameters > 30 mm in wide bore or super wide bore magnets, a series of mini-imaging systems have been designed with the same modular construction as for the micro systems discussed in
Micro 2.5.
The Mini 0.5 system for wide bore magnets is comprised of a probe body, exchangeable rf-resonators, an actively shielded gradient system (0.75 G/cm/A) and a separate Animal/Object Handling System which offers increased flexibility for in-vivo studies because the position of the animal in the Mini 0.5 probe can be changed relative to the rf-coil, while the animal remains inside the magnet.
The Mini 0.5 AHS/RF probe is equipped with exchangeable resonators or surface coils. Moving the animal along the rf-coil is not possible from the outside with this type, but, e.g., surface coil applications are easier to perform.
Gradient System
The actively shielded gradients have been designed to maximize the space available to the user within a wide bore magnet (shim system) and provides sufficient gradient strengths (max. 45 G/cm @ 60 A) for a wide variety of applications.
RF Section
The Mini 0.5 probes provide the platform for exchangeable single- and double-tuned resonators (max. inner dia. 38 mm), whereby each insert contains all electronic tuning elements for optimal performance.
A variety of options are available for the Mini 0.5 AHS/RF, including single- or double-tuned rosonators (max. inner dia. 34 mm), surface coils, integrated coils which can be specified by the customer, or movable coils which provide greater flexibility.
Applications
With the Mini 0.5 and Mini 0.5 AHS/TR probes whole body in vivo applications with tumor bearing mice or small rats or in vivo brain studies with adult rats can be carried out using the same respiratory and ECG triggering devices as for the Micro 2.5 probes. Typical inanimate objects studied are oil cores, timber, and fruits; special custom-made apparatus can be employed for flow measurements.
