Lung Imaging
Hyperpolarized Helium
These data were acquired using a BioSpec® 47/40.
(A; top) MRI of the lung is challenging: in normal sequences the tissue is mainly dark, only when switching to extremly short TE-BP techniques, the parenchymal signal increases.
(B; lower left) Better results are obtained with hyperpolarized 3He gas.
However, with conventional MRI the effect of anti-asthma drugs can be assessed.
(C, lower right): oedematous areas (red arrow) under treatment 30 h and 72 h after an ovalbumin challenge (MRI and histology).
